Data Analyst/Scientific Programmer

Position Summary:

Incumbents in this role are focused on providing data solutions and programming in the areas of exploration, operations and corporate/business support.  Responsible for performing tasks such as importing, transforming, validating or modeling data in order to perform advanced analytics in support of petro-professional staff, such as engineers and scientists.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

The following represents the majority of the duties performed by the position, but is not meant to be at all-inclusive or nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary:

  • Responsible for analysis, design and delivery of data visualization, analysis and reporting solutions
  • Responsible for creating dashboards and pivoting solutions using Excel and Spotfire – may include data presentations in charts, graphs, tables and relational databases
  • Identifies data issues and drives  improvements
  • Understands and works with large amounts of data in varying degrees of complexity and scale
  • Analyzes operational requirements and assesses technology and capacity requirements
  • Develops and maintains new skills to accomplish assigned tasks and responsibilities
  • Other tasks as assigned

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in data analytics, software programming or related field.
  • Strong knowledge and working experience with reporting and analytics using visualization tools, specifically Spotfire
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets
  • Experience with SQL Server, SSIS, and SSRS a plus
  • Experience with R, Python and Predictive Analytics a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task with attention to accuracy
  • Must be team player that possess the ability to adapt to a changing and fast paced work environment


Work is typically performed in an office environment.  Exposure to conditions such as extreme heat or cold is not likely, but possible.  If incumbent is required to travel to operations, personal protective equipment including but not limited to head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes and flame resistant clothing is required.  Safety rules including OSHA and DOT requirements are strictly enforced.  Some travel may be required.
