Data Architecture Specialist

Position Summary:

Incumbent is responsible for performing tasks related to the expansion and optimization of data architecture to empower business units with ready access to data required for business planning and decision-making.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

The following represents the majority of the duties performed by the position, but is not meant to be at all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary:

  • Supports and works with software developers, data architects, data analysts and data scientists on transformational initiatives, ensuring optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects.
  • Works with internal data and analytics experts on process improvements in order to create greater functionality and efficiency in data systems.
  • Develops, tests, maintains and troubleshoots code, including database development and ETL/data migration development
  • Analyzes operational data requirements and contributes to information technology and capacity requirements assessment
  • Collaborates with technical and non-technical partners to solve problems and develop new functionality
  • Participates in requirements gathering and analysis meetings with team members, stakeholders and internal customers
  • Supports and develops enhancements to existing Data Warehouse and Spotfire processes
  • Assesses the validity and business-sense of data warehousing models for end-user consumption
  • Assists power users across business units with creation of dashboards, data visualizations, and reports in Excel or Spotfire
  • Other tasks as assigned

Skills & Experience:

  • 4-year degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related field highly preferred; Combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Demonstrated understanding of relational databases (SQL) required
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) cubes preferred
  • Experience in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and other advanced business intelligence concepts related to data extraction, transformation, loading, scheduling, etc., strongly desired
  • Familiarity with Kimball approach for data mart development, multi-dimensional database structures, e.g. Star Schemas preferred
  • Preferred experience with analytics and data visualization tools, such as Spotfire, Tableau, PowerBI
  • Some experience with R, Python, and/or Predictive Analytics a plus
  • Established proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills with excellent verbal and written communications skills are required
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task with attention to accuracy
  • Must be team player that possess the ability to adapt to a changing and fast paced work environment
